The Pulsar Merger LRF XL50 Thermal Imaging Binoculars have some significant improvements over previous models. Prime among them is a 1024x768 @ 12 µm thermal sensor which generates images with high resolution and exceptional detail. Animals can be seen clearly in both dimension and behavior, and a 6' tall object can be detected at nearly 1.5 miles. The germanium objective binocular lenses are 50mm f/1.0.

The Merger LRF XL50 has variable magnification from 2.5x to 20x which can be changed smoothly or in 2x increments. Clarity remains the same over the zoom range. Since the images are displayed on a 1024x768 AMOLED HD screen for each eye, each eyepiece has its own diopter. Eye relief is 15mm and field of view is 80.7x60.7 feet at 100 yards and 2.5x. Interpupillary distance ranges from 62mm to 74mm. The Merger LRF XL50's eyecups have winged eye shades to keep light from the eyepiece displays from lighting up your face when in use. When you lower the binocular, sensors detect that your eyes are no longer in viewing position and the displays automatically turn off. Three levels of signal amplification let you control brightness and contrast of the eyepiece displays, and images can be observed in any of 8 different color pallets. 

The LRF in the Merger's name stands for Laser Range Finder. The Merger LRF XL50's built-in laser rangefinder has a measurement range of 1000 meters (1094 yards) with an accuracy of ± 1 meter in either single measurement mode or scanning mode.

A system of dual rechargeable batteries power the XL50. One is built-in and has a 4 Ah capacity, the other is replaceable and can hold a 3.2 Ah charge. The replaceable battery is shaped so it may be replaced by feel in total darkness.

A built-in photo and video recorder can be downloaded to a computer via a USB-C port or shared over 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi through the Stream Vision 2 app on iOS and Android phones. Registered users also receive 16 GB of cloud storage for photos and videos.

The Merger LRF XL50's chassis is constructed of magnesium alloy and is IPX7 waterproof rated. It can operate in temperatures from -13° to 122° F.
